Simple honest and to the point. Just what I was looking for as the starting blocks to get out onto the road again.
This book had great interest for my family because my son is heading to the Coast Guard in a few weeks, but he had to meet the running time for a mile and a half before they would ship him out. He's not a runner, it just isn't his thing. My husband has been doing a lot of online research about running, and had already offered some great advice to our son, but he decided to give this a read to see if there was anything it could add to his research.Overall, for my son, there was nothing new. My husband found much of what was in the book online. However, he said, had he purchased this book first, it would have saved him a lot of time and effort, as the information in this book is pretty much right on par with what the pros recommend.He also found the book very easy to read. He said "it's descriptive without being too wordy." This is high praise from him.There are a couple of criticisms, which is why it didn't get a full five stars. There is some repeated information a couple of time. The other thing is that there are some words that were misused. Specifically, there are four or five instances of the word no, where the word on is used instead. There are other misuses as well, but these are what stood out. Mr. Keenan should probably have someone look over the document again and fix the errors.Overall, however, the response from my husband was quite positive. Although the advice can be found elsewhere, it's nice to have it all in one place, organized in a way that makes sense and eliminates the need for extensive research.EDIT: I ended up reading this last night and I wanted to add that there are a number of issues in terms of the writing. The information is good (and there's an interesting four week plan included in the book, but it's hard to read correctly on a standard Kindle). However, there are so many run on sentences that I had to reread several sections in order to get the full idea. It's not that the information wasn't good, it was just fine, actually it was very good. However, presentation is important if you want people to absorb the information, breaking up some of the 35 word sentences into several smaller sentences would help greatly. Still keeping it at 4 stars, the information provided was well researched and applicable for beginner to moderate runners.
I’ll be honest here, I’m a good friend of Mike’s and have been his regular customer. He writes great running programs and really knows what he’s talking about when it comes to running. This book is just another gem brought to every beginner and even experienced runner, for a very affordable price.
